Mary's Blind Obedience
Monday
June 17, 2019
Choice---another word, but this word is seen in a positive light today. Children are offered choices constantly. Parents are hoping their child chooses to do good. There is nothing wrong with that but where is the lesson that as one learns to obey his parent, he will learn to obey God the Father?
Obedience. What does it mean? The Latin for the word obedience is oboedire. Ob means “toward” and oedire means “to hear” or “listen towards”. Obedience to God is to hear the heart of God. That is what Mary did!
You see, Mary knows that she is The Father’s daughter. She knows that she is loved.
Mary shows us with her fiat, how to hear the heart of God.
She was able to give her fiat because of her blind obedience and trust in the Father.
Jesus calls us to love God with all our heart. "There was ascholar of the law who stood up to test him and said,
"Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
26Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
27He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

28He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

” Luke 10: 25-28
Heart is mentioned over a thousand times in Scripture. What is the heart? In the Hebrew translation it is not our emotions and feelings like today’s culture has convinced us. It is the seat of our will, our decision making, place of truth where we meet God, our hidden center.
Mary, with her free will, was receptive to the Father allowing His love to flow freely into her. She listened to His heart. She obeyed. Her blind obedience and total trust in God’s plan, set her free!
Mary our Mother teaches us to obey when she said at the Wedding Feast at Cana, “Do whatever He tells you.” How do we live out that command? Just as John the Beloved rested his head on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us join him in resting on the chest of Jesus. Hear His heart beat with love for you. As our Lord’s love fills your heart, joyfully, blindly obey Him.
